Cologne Annual Scholarship<\/em>\u00a0has been awarded to Carola Murguia San Roman.\u00a0Both scholarship recipients are University of San Diego School of Law graduates who have earned their law degrees and will soon take the California Bar Exam.<\/p>\n<p>HFM has been granting scholarships in support of diversity and inclusion efforts to local law students for several years. The diversity scholarship is funded by contributions from HFM\u2019s attorneys and the firm itself. The Steven J. Cologne Annual Scholarship is funded solely by HFM Managing Partner Steven Cologne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur community and the legal profession flourish when we make diversity and inclusion a priority,\u201d said Cologne. \u201cHFM stands behind our commitment to diversity, and we are proud to support a future generation of lawyers who have already shown their commitment and support for diversity efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cohen, who is fluent in both French and Spanish served as the Membership Committee Law Student Chair for San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association and is a regular Project LEAD volunteer.\u00a0She mentors a 14-year-old Latina girl through MANA de San Diego. \u00a0She served as Intern to Distinguished USD Professor Roy Brooks, as well as the Center for Public Interest Law at USD and Think Dignity.\u00a0Cohen was also a law clerk with Casa Cornelia Law Center, which serves the immigrant and asylum-seeking communities.<\/p>\n<p>San Roman first wanted to be a lawyer growing up watching her father, an attorney and public servant in Mexico. After serving in the United States Marine Corps for eight years, she began working towards becoming a lawyer.\u00a0Her experience includes an externship with the Honorable Roger T. Benitez in U.S. District Court, and a summer associate position with a private law firm where she focused on employment law.
