{"id":2586,"date":"2015-11-23T14:31:52","date_gmt":"2015-11-23T21:31:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/higgslaw.local\/?p=2586"},"modified":"2019-04-20T17:58:23","modified_gmt":"2019-04-21T00:58:23","slug":"hoover-high-school-cardinals-interact-club-visits-higgs-fletcher-mack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/higgslaw.com\/hoover-high-school-cardinals-interact-club-visits-higgs-fletcher-mack\/","title":{"rendered":"Hoover High School Cardinals Interact Club visits Higgs Fletcher &#038; Mack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2592\" src=\"https:\/\/higgslaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Hoover-High-School-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Hoover-High-School\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/>Each year, HFM hosts Hoover High School&#8217;s\u00a0Cardinals Interact so we can help educate these seniors on what they could expect from going to law school and\/or practicing law and 2015 was no exception.\u00a0 Higgs Partner <a href=\"https:\/\/higgslaw.com\/attorneys\/laura-l-buckley\/\">Laura Buckley<\/a> led the efforts in recently providing a roundtable discussion for seven students and two faculty members of the local high school Interact club at the offices of Higgs Fletcher &amp; Mack.\u00a0 Assisting Ms. Buckley with answering students&#8217; questions and providing insight into what it was like to be an attorney were Higgs lawyers Tom Ferrell, <a href=\"https:\/\/higgslaw.com\/attorneys\/john-j-rice\/\">John Rice<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/higgslaw.com\/attorneys\/maggie-e-schroedter\/\">Maggie Schroedter<\/a>.\u00a0 The students each commented on something they had accomplished in high school and why they wanted to pursue a career in the legal field.\u00a0 The attorneys spoke about their legal background, what it takes to be an attorney, and gave their thoughts about the legal profession.\u00a0 Follow-up questions from the students explored the different roles played by transactional versus litigation attorneys, how to achieve life\/work balance, and the challenges women face in being an attorney and a mother.<\/p>\n<h4>About Hoover High School Cardinals Interact<\/h4>\n<p>The Hoover High School Cardinals Interact is a partnership between Price Charities and San Diego Rotary Club 33 to support a mentoring program for Hoover High School students, grades ten through twelve.\u00a0 There are approximately 150 Hoover High students who participate at any one time in the three year mentoring and tutoring program.\u00a0 The program which is modeled in part on the Aaron Price Fellows Program, includes camps, as well as visits to San Diego businesses, non-profits and government institutions.\u00a0 Students are able to experience a variety of programs along with ongoing one-on-one mentoring and tutoring.\u00a0 The program has been successful at helping many of its participants graduate from high school and attend college.
