SAN DIEGO \u2013 April 10, 2013 \u2013<\/b>Higgs Fletcher & Mack<\/a>, a San Diego-based law firm for more than 70 years, has expanded its commitment to diversity and education in the San Diego community with the recent scholarship provided to a deserving California Western School of Law student.<\/p>\n

The $3,500 scholarship was presented to Thomas Wang, a second-year law student and Asian immigrant.<\/p>\n

The Higgs Fletcher & Mack Diversity Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate ethical and\/or civic leadership, as well as a commitment to providing services to underrepresented groups in the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis scholarship is particularly special because it is made possible by the generous contributions from the firm itself and several Higgs attorneys\u2013 not only Cal Western alumni but non-alumni as well. It is great to see our firm extend a hand to a deserving student,\u201d said Rahil Swigart, member of the Higgs Fletcher & Mack Diversity Committee and a California Western School of Law alum.<\/p>\n

Thomas Wang was selected from a number of outstanding students, all who had unique backgrounds and strengths. Thomas\u2019 dedication to promoting diversity, helping others assimilate and his passion to breakdown unfair social stigmas made him a stand out candidate. He is involved with a number of organizations including the Pan Asian Lawyer Association and Chinese Attorney Law Association. Thomas is currently an intern at the San Diego County Public Defender\u2019s Office and is slated to graduate from California Western in 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to be able to help with students\u2019 educational goals,\u201d said Susan Hack, chair of Higgs\u2019 Diversity Committee. \u201cWe first awarded the University of San Diego School of Law Diversity Scholarship in 2010 and have now expanded our giving to the California Western School of Law. This scholarship will help alleviate some of the financial burden the students face.\u201d<\/p>\n
